I give minds better levers on reality. My work spans generative AI and behavioral simulation, formal methods, and tools for thought—connecting academic inquiry with industry practice to understand complex systems and create useful new ones. Currently a Principal Data & Applied Scientist at Microsoft, I help build M365 Copilot Chat and lead the open-source TinyTroupe project.

Professional background
I am a Principal Data & Applied Scientist at Microsoft, working in Copilots & Agents Core on M365 Copilot Chat. My main responsibility is improving search quality, using large language models themselves to develop and evaluate retrieval and answer quality. My work spans prompt engineering, agentic approaches, AI-assisted programming, experimentation, and product development.
I have worked intensively with LLMs since the GPT-3 era, before ChatGPT existed. Since then, I have built countless tools, prototypes, and product features with this technology. I am fully invested in AI-assisted programming: Claude Code and Copilot CLI often continue working in my development environment overnight.
I also created and lead TinyTroupe, an open-source, LLM-powered multiagent persona simulation project with 7,000+ GitHub stars.
I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of São Paulo and Université Paris-Sud, where I developed theory and technology spanning Software Engineering, Formal Methods, Formal Verification, Simulation, Artificial Intelligence, and Multiagent Systems. I have published several peer-reviewed research papers, built consumer and experimental business technologies as an entrepreneur, advised major corporations as a Data Science consultant at Dell Technologies, and led a healthcare Data Science team at Funcional Health Tech.
I'm also highly interested in science as a whole, philosophy, business, art and literature. Besides my native Portuguese, I speak and write English quite well (116/120 on TOEFL iBT, 8.5/9 on IELTS), and my French is reasonably good (I lived in Paris in 2009, and previously already had a B2 grade in the TCF). I live in São Paulo, Brazil.
